After purchasing a 1950s bungalow in Mar Vista back in 2019, a creative couple soon found themselves renovating in the middle of a pandemic. Along with various shipping delays, the Kitzes also faced skyrocketing material costs. Luckily, katebrien_ and davidkitz are fans of minimalism and, with the help of Andrew Hall (ahaandd) of AHA Design, the remodel of the low-slung home became a shining example of restraint. Perhaps the best feature is the staircase that now stands in bright, cost-effective drywall, an alternative to the intended Japanese joinery that quickly moved out of budget. “People say if you go through a renovation with someone, you can do anything. David and I really see eye to eye, aesthetically speaking, and we trust and respect each other,” says Kate. “But there’s a lot of pressure when you’re designing something yourself.” “Even up to the point of moving in, we said, ’We know it’s beautiful. It’s what we envisioned. But is it going to feel like home?’” David remembers. “Now that we’re living here, it feels better than we could have imagined.” See their full #ConstructionDiary at the link in bio.
