“A feature film biopic on the legendary “Macho Man” Randy Savage, titled Macho, is officially in development. deadline first reported the news, revealing that Kenan Thompson and Johnny Ryan Jr.’s production company, Artists for Artists (AFA), is behind the project.

Thompson and Ryan Jr. are long-time fans of Savage. Thompson notably worked with the wrestling icon on a Nickelodeon promo in 1999. The script for Macho was co-written by Savage’s late brother, Lanny Poffo (who passed away in February 2023), and Eric Shapiro.

“Macho Man” Randy Savage (born Randy Mario Poffo) was one of professional wrestling’s most influential figures, known for his charismatic persona, distinctive voice, and vibrant attire. Before his wrestling career, Savage pursued a baseball career, playing in the farm systems for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds. A shoulder injury led him to wrestling, where he became a six-time World Heavyweight Champion across his storied careers in WWE (then WWF) and WCW.

Savage largely stepped away from wrestling in the early 2000s and tragically died of a heart attack in May 2011 at age 58. He was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015. While his life has been covered in documentaries and books, this will be the first narrative feature film dedicated to his story.
