Each year on September 22, we celebrate #WorldRhinoDay and re-double our efforts to teach, care for and preserve endangered rhinoceros species from total extinction.

With the increasing rates of rhinoceros poaching throughout the world, it is incredibly important to bring together countless organizations and people like your Toronto Zoo to stop rhino poaching - all while preserving this iconic species 🦏

Earlier today, we looked at Vishnu and the Greater One-Horned species. But in Africa, did you know that although the Southern white rhino is one of the more prevalent species, with a population of approximately 16,000 individuals while the Northern white rhino is Critically Endangered with only two individuals left?
 
To mitigate this unfortunate reality, your Toronto Zoo is part of the White Rhinoceros Species Survival Plan (SSP), which aims to establish and maintain healthy, genetically diverse populations, and overall conservation efforts to save this incredible species. One of the Toronto Zoo's mandates is to educate our guests and members on current conservation issues and help preserve the incredible biodiversity on the planet.
