Next, we’re shining our #MoodySpotlight on utexasrtf junior William Beachum from Royal Oak, Michigan! William is at #TEXASMoody because of the approachable and welcoming atmosphere, as well as the authentic and creative people here. 

“Moody immediately felt like home when I visited, and Moody has shown up for me like a family since I’ve been here. Moody also has an incredible amount of shared knowledge across communications disciplines that makes me a better filmmaker.” 

For William, the best mode of communication with people is through filmmaking. He said filmmaking is his favorite way to tell a story. He has enjoyed all his utexasrtf classes and has particularly appreciated the mentorship from his professors. “Moody has given me the skills to succeed outside of the classroom. Being able to make movies with some of my best friends in the world for school is an indescribable feeling.” 

This past summer, William interned at creatorcamps, co-founded by utexasrtf alum Cazden Morrison, as seen on Shark Tank. It’s a summer camp for kids that teaches music production, filmmaking, content creation, animation, game design and even entrepreneurship. “It was such a grounding and inspiring summer being able to hear kids move forward with a pure sense of creativity.”

William has also interned with Joanna and Chip Gaines’ production company, Blind Nil. “It was so incredibly cool to be able to see Joanna work in real time and really dive into the world of reality television from a production angle.” He said he came out of the internship with a much better understanding of what a production manager’s role is. 

“My favorite Moody memory was serving as a producer on a movie called “You’re a Bad Person” and being able to film it at the historic Antone’s Nightclub downtown.” 

This semester, William is looking forward to directing a short film about bowling! “We are lucky enough to be able to film in the oldest bowling alley in Texas, Saengerrunde Hall, and I’m so excited to see it come to life with the help of some of the coolest and most creative people I know.” Good luck with your filmmaking this semester, William!
