The Miners' Memorial Service in Brookwood started as a way to honor the 13 lives lost in coal mine explosions on Sept. 23, 2001.

Now this memorial has expanded to honor and remember much more. 

'We don't want to forget what happened, because it can happen again," said James A. Blakenship, UMWA District 20 representative.
