The date has now been set....

The new EU Entry/Exit System (EES) is set to kick off on 12th October 2025, and this is everything you need to know.

🛂 The EES is an automated system that records your entry at a country’s border by scanning your passport, taking your fingerprints, and a facial scan.

🇪🇺 It applies to all countries in the Schengen area, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland. UK travellers will have to use it the first time they enter a participating country after 12th October.

📷 Once your record is created, it’s valid for three years, or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. Children under 12 won’t have their fingerprints taken, but all passengers, including babies, will have a photograph taken and a digital record created.

✈️ When leaving a country, all you’ll need to do is scan your passport and provide either a fingerprint or your photograph.

📅 The rollout will take some time, with countries phasing in the system until 26th April 2026 to keep things running smoothly.
