The Berkeley City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to use $8 million in state funding to launch the Berkeley CareBridge Program, a reentry plan for unhoused residents with behavioral health needs.

According to the Sept. 30 meeting agenda, CareBridge is intended to address long-standing service “gaps in housing, treatment and reentry support for justice-involved unhoused individuals.” 

If approved, the proposed program “would provide a post-arrest diversion pathway for unhoused individuals with mental health and/or substance use disorders,” said District 4 Councilmember Igor Tregub in an email.
