Let’s continue with some introductions. Next up is our assistant director, Dr. Michael Anne Tolan!

Dr. Michael Anne Tolan returns for her fourth season with Elevate Winds, stepping into her new role as Assistant Director while continuing her work with the woodwind section. A founding staff member, she has watched Elevate Performing Arts grow into a thriving and welcoming community, and she is eager for all the opportunities the 2025–26 season will bring.

In addition to her work with Elevate, Dr. Tolan teaches saxophone at Avon Community Schools and in the greater Indianapolis area. She serves as principal saxophonist with the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra, performing regularly throughout the year. She previously served as Woodwind Caption Head for the Plainfield High School Red Pride Marching Band and as saxophone instructor for the Avon Marching Black and Gold.

She holds a DMA in saxophone performance from West Virginia University, an MM from Indiana State University, and a BMA from DePauw University. Dr. Tolan’s research, “Playing-Related Medical Injuries and Health Conditions in Collegiate Saxophonists: A Survey of Saxophonists in North America,” evaluated the presence of injuries in students studying saxophone, which has extended into her teaching in the marching arts. Outside of her musical commitments, she enjoys time with her family and her three dogs—Lucky, Alastor, and Remus.
