Robot umpires are getting called up to the big leagues next season.

Major League Baseball's 11-man competition committee on Tuesday approved the use of the Automated Ball/Strike System in the major leagues in 2026.

Here's how it will work:

Human umpires will still call balls and strikes, but the pitcher, catcher, or batter will be able to challenge any call by tapping their helmet or cap.

The automated ball-strike system will then use cameras to review the calls and correct them if necessary.

Teams will get two challenges per game and additional appeals in extra innings.
