Ashland, Oregon is a perfect place ✨ From outstanding food, to theater productions, to drinkable “fart water,” they’ve got it all! I highly recommend a 3-4 day trip down here from Portland, we loved every second. ❣️

Here are a few recs & things to know.

FOOD —

🌾Yes yes yes mas_ashland is worth every freakin penny of your hard earned money. Ball out and book it. Each course is made with such care, but never overdone.

🌈 tlalli.astreet is a relatively new opening but it’s all color, high energy and big flavor. Female-led and highlighting pre-Hispanic food processes and ancestral ingredients.

🐓 cocorico.usa is an adorable French/italian bistro. It’s cozy and sure to please!

💙 bluetoba_ashland serves Indonesian cuisine. They source spices that are not readily available in the states. Guy Fieri visited a few years ago and I can see why! It’s a great option for lunch too.

THEATER —

The Oregon Shakespeare festival isn’t JUST Shakespeare! They feature 8-10 plays every season, which sadly closes at the end of October and opens again in March. We went to see three plays:

Into the Woods — god good this is long 😅 But I’m not really a musical theater fan.

Julius Caesar — played by an all female cast. Wowowow, so good. I’m not a huuuuge Shakespeare person but this modern take, paired with outstanding acting had me locked in.

Quixote Nuevo — osfashland please please extend this play!!!! This was the best play I’ve seen in years. It’s a fresh take on the 1605 Don Quixote novel. Basically, an elderly man begins to “lose his mind” and see all sorts of visions. But to the audience, the visions are brilliant and blurred with reality (think: dancing skeletons, battles in the desert). It’s packed with light and dark humor, current socio-political themes (ICE, racial injustices) and brilliant acting. When you can make someone laugh and cry in the same sitting, that’s no easy feat.

MISC —

Lithia Park has so many running and mountain biking trails! Plus free pickleball courts!

The town is very walkable. Try to book a location not far off of Main Street.
