Looking for a better video editing workflow? Here’s how we moved 18TB of footage last month without touching a single external hard drive.

 If you're tired of slow copy times, missing project files, and physically delivering drives to your editor, this post-production workflow is for you. We built a hybrid cloud system that gives us speed, security, and peace of mind.

Here’s the breakdown:

 Ingest with Proxies:
 All raw media goes through Adobe Media Encoder. It creates a primary workable file for our server and a lightweight proxy file so the editor can start working immediately without waiting. 

 The Central Hub:
 Our media server is a Synology SA 6400, a NAS that can hold up to two petabytes of footage. 

 Cloud Sync to Dropbox:
 We use a service called Cloud Sync on the Synology to create a bi-directional link to Dropbox. 

 Seamless Collaboration:
 Editors download the proxies from Dropbox to begin work. Once they export the final, full-resolution files, they upload them to Dropbox, and Cloud Sync automatically downloads the final version back to our local server. 

This creates a perfect mirror of our local data on the cloud for backup and collaboration. Best of all, anyone on our local team—from marketing to the CEO—can connect to our network switch and get instant access to any file they need. No more gatekeeping files, no more delays.
