The debut of Dario Vitale at the helm of Versace may not seek to shock, but it certainly signals a thoughtful return to the source. Rather than chasing headlines, the new creative director takes a confident first stride — one grounded in Gianni’s archives, not Donatella’s glitter-drenched legacy. And that choice speaks volumes. 

From the first look, the collection hums with 1980s vitality — sharp shoulders, saturated hues, a touch of pop surrealism. It’s not nostalgia for its own sake, but a calibrated nod to a decade when Versace rewrote the rules of glamour. The suits are standouts: sculpted, precise, unapologetically bold. Styling, unsurprisingly, is immaculate — Vitale’s Miu Miu pedigree showing its polish in every layered choice. 

There are hints at playfulness too — graphic motifs, pop art splashes, and a flirtation with the absurd that could, if nurtured, become the brand’s new lexicon. Yes, it’s early. And yes, Vitale will need a few seasons to carve out his voice. But unlike some debuts built on self-mythology, this one whispers instead of screams — and that restraint may be his strength.
