Juicy seared pork chops and fragrant egg fried rice smothered in a rich tomato sauce and melty cheese 🤤 … no wonder Hong Kong-Style Baked Pork Chop Rice is a beloved mainstay at Hong Kong cafes! I‘m pretty sure my dad ordered this almost every time we ate at the cha chaan tang. Now I get a kick out of recreating favourite dishes at home for my own fam. This is my homemade version of the classic dish using mutti_canada Strained Tomatoes (Passata) made from the finest sun-ripened Italian tomatoes processed within 24 hrs of harvest in a way that gives Mutti Strained Tomatoes its unmatched sweet flavour and velvety smooth texture – which worked sooo well for this dish as you can see! Here are the ingredients and tips you need to follow my steps in the video so you can make my Hong Kong-Style Baked Pork Chop Rice recipe too 🙌🍅❤️

INGREDIENTS

For marinating porkchops:
3 porkchops, 1” thick bone-in or boneless (preferably blade-end or rib cuts which are juicier)
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp Shaoxing wine (can substitute dry sherry or water)
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3 dashes white pepper

For egg fried rice:
5 C leftover cooked medium-grain rice
3 eggs, whisked
½ C frozen veggies
1 tsp salt +/- to taste
2 tbsp oil

For dredging and cooking pork chops:
2 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp oil

For tomato sauce:
1 onion, halved and thinly sliced
2 tsp minced garlic
1½ C (355 ml) Mutti Strained Tomatoes (Passata)
1 tsp sugar
Salt to taste

For topping:
1 C shredded cheese (I like a mix of mozzarella and aged cheddar)

📝 notes:
⊳ sear pork chops both sides a total of 7 mins (less for chops thinner than 1”) or until internal temp is 135f for juiciest chops. don’t over cook! they go into the oven to finish
⊳ bake in preheated 400f oven 10-15 mins or until sauce is hot and bubbly
