The Des Moines School Board accepted Superintendent Ian Roberts' resignation during a special meeting hours after his attorneys announced he would be stepping down from the district's top job following his arrest by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agents.

“It is a sad and troubling end for an individual who gave many people, especially our students, hope,” said Jackie Norris, the board's chair.
