Fat Bear Week 2025 has drawn to a close, and Chunk - a brown bear weighing over 500kg (78st 8lb) has overcome the odds to take home the crown.
 
Chunk broke his jaw in June - in what was likely to be a mating season fight with another bear - but didn’t let the setback hold him down, maintaining his dominance and catching plenty of salmon.
 
"Chunk and I both went through some stuff this summer... and we both have learned to adapt and heal”, one voter said.
 
Park rangers at Alaska's Katmai National Park, home to some of the largest brown bears in the world, picked 12 brown bears and asked the public to vote for the bear they believe "best exemplifies fatness and success", as they prepare for winter hibernation.
