When I was designing the packaging for spanx on my friends computer every day after my 9-5, I realized something…. every single box of women’s hosiery looked the same. Beige. Gray. White. A serious, airbrushed model on the front. Boring and no fun! As you guys know... i had no budget for advertising. (I mean I was using my own butt to market Spanx 😂). So I decided the packaging would be my ad. I made it bright red. I put 3 cartoon figures on the front instead of an airbrushed model. And I added cheeky lines like “We put the power in your panties!” 🙈😂 It went against every rule in the industry at the time… but that’s exactly why it worked.
