The Con Edison Student Athlete of the Week is Iona Prep cross country senior Michael Rynne.

Athletics: On Sept. 27, Rynne finished third in the Varsity B race (based on enrollment) of the Six Flags XC Safari Invitational and fifth overall. For the 5,000m course, Rynne finished in a time of 15:41 which was an Iona Prep record and the fastest 5K of his career. ... He competed at the Dan Purdy XC Invitational at Pawling and won the 5K varsity race in a time of 15:56. ... As a member of the indoor track team, Rynne anchored the Iona Prep Sprint Medley (800m) to a win at the adidas National Indoor Track and field championships and at that meet anchored the distance medley relay to a second place finish garnering All-American status. ... He's garnered multiple All Westchester County honors on relay and individually.

Extracurriculars: At Iona Prep, Rynne's the President of the Math Club. ... He's been a member of the Peer Ministry Program, Biomedical Club, Newspaper Club, and Book Club. ... Rynne's chaired and coordinated the Iona Prep chapter of the annual Leukemia and Lymphoma Society fundraiser. ... He's participated in 300 hours of service along with a 10-day immersion trip to Lima, Peru to build homes for families. ... Outside of Iona Prep, Rynne's volunteered his time at Progressive Services Group in Mount Vernon sorting, packaging and distributing food to formerly incarcerated people.
