As daylight broke over central Philippines, scenes of devastation emerged from Cebu, Bogo City, and nearby towns, flattened buildings, cracked roads, overwhelmed hospitals, and grieving families. At least 60 lives were lost, including 13 people crushed when a sports complex collapsed during a basketball game. More than 150 others are injured, and thousands are displaced.⁠

Entire communities spent the night outdoors, too afraid to return home due to aftershocks. In Daanbantayan, historic structures like St. Rita Church were badly damaged. Rescue operations continue in landslide-hit areas, as local officials plead for more machinery and medical supplies.⁠

Classes and government work remain suspended as authorities assess structural damage. President Marcos has promised aid and accountability—especially as video of fires, panicked evacuations, and collapsing buildings circulate online.⁠
