Gerewol in all its original sound and glory! Every year, the Wodaabe people of Chad gather for Gerewol, a vibrant festival where beauty, dance, and tradition come alive. 

During Gerewol, young Wodaabe men spend hours preparing: painting their faces with red ochre and white clay, wearing elaborate beadwork, and donning tall ostrich-feather headdresses. Their appearance highlights traits considered beautiful in Wodaabe culture — tallness, symmetry, bright eyes, and white teeth.

The men then perform the Yaake dance, standing in long lines, singing in deep, rhythmic tones and moving in unison. Women from the community observe closely, choosing partners based on grace, stamina, and charm.
