Today I ran the 10k at the San Jose runrocknroll. This was my second ever 10k. It was supposed to be a half-marathon, but a few weeks ago, after realizing that I didn't have time to train and had nothing to prove, I dropped to the 10K. When I dropped the distance I set a goal of running a sub 12:00min/mi pace. Goal accomplished. Now, I'll never be fast and I'm still not a runner (runners run for fun and I have never once run for fun) but it's a marker that I enjoy setting on occasion and the fact that I'm doing this at all is a minor miracle in itself. Seriously, I do not take this for granted. After all, I am not built for long distances, just over three years ago I was dragging an oxygen tank, I have always hated running, and I was nearly 30 pounds heavier a couple of years ago. I share this to make sure I remind myself that good things can indeed happen. This is in no way a "if I can do it anyone can do it" post, but it is a "thank your body" or "be surprised by what you can do...
