The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry meets for the 130th time this weekend.⁣
⁣
The series began in 1892, as Auburn and Georgia met in Atlanta for the very first football game for the Tigers. Auburn would win 10-0.⁣
⁣
The game was held almost yearly in Atlanta until it moved to Macon, GA in 1904. From 1916 to 1958, the majority of games were held in Columbus, GA. Auburn's home games would finally move to campus in 1960. Other cities that hosted the rivalry game would include Montgomery, AL, Savannah, GA, and, of course, Athens, GA as early as 1912.⁣

As for the uniforms, things changed slightly over the years. In the 1970s, Georgia wore red pants on the road. For the 1978 meeting, Auburn shocked everyone and broke out orange jerseys for the first time in 23 years.⁣

Two years later, Auburn would once again wear orange for the Georgia game. The Bulldogs had already switched to their now-traditional silver pants by that point.⁣

The 1990s was a time for many relatively minor uniform changes, including Auburn's orange drop-shadow numbers. Georgia also dabbled with the drop-shadow digits for a few years, ending after the 2001 meeting.⁣

For the 2007 meeting, Georgia surprised players with black alternate jerseys following pregame warmups.⁣
⁣
Georgia had worn simple block font numbers for many seasons, but began wearing a new custom number font for the 2013 season. The new numbers were designed to match the G logo on the helmets.⁣ The Bulldogs returned to a classic block font in 2022.

The 2020 meeting marked the earliest the rivalry had been played since that first meeting on February 20, 1892. Eighty-one of the previous 82 meetings had been played in the month of November, with the lone exclusion being the December 2, 2017 SEC Championship game. The 1936 matchup was played in late October.⁣
