Nearly a year after a deadly wildfire tore through the #PacificPalisades, authorities have made an arrest connected to the tragedy that claimed 12 lives and wiped out more than 6,000 homes and buildings.⁠

Authorities say 29-year-old #JonathanRinderknecht is suspected of setting the initial fire on New Year’s Eve. The Florida resident was charged with maliciously starting what eventually became the Palisades fire, according to The Los Angeles Times. Investigators found evidence on his digital devices, one of which was an image Rinderknecht generated on ChatGPT depicting a burning city.⁠

The January 7th blaze devastated one of Los Angeles’ most affluent coastal neighborhoods. On the same day, another fire known as the Eaton Fire erupted in Altadena, claiming 18 more lives. Investigators are still searching for the causes of both fires.⁠
