DEAD LANGUAGE GIVEN LIFE: After a few years of no Latin club involvement at McCallum, junior Lela Harper decided it would be a good time to bring it back. During FIT last week on Thursday, members of the Latin Club joined to create Roman style mosaics out of melted Jolly Ranchers. McCallum's Latin teacher and Latin club sponsor Nick Martin says he is glad to see the club back in action.

“I’m proud that Lela wanted to bring back the club and help encourage a love for the language and culture,” Martin said.

Harper, being president of the club, said was overjoyed at the success of the meeting. Harper revived the Latin club because of her passion for the language, and she wanted to create a space for people with the same love for it to come together.

“I already love my Latin class so I wanted to make a time for Latin kids to come and learn, and further enrich their interest in the language and Roman culture,” Harper said.

Harper has plans to further the Latin club and build it into a central place for Latin students. She hopes that it will give Latin students an outlet for their interest in the language.

“We plan to help students learn more about the language, make it a place for students to ask for help or socialize, and hopefully in the future we can do some fundraising,” Harper said.
