New York Republican Representative Mike Lawler posted on Facebook that LGBTQ+ people are “our equals” and “deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”

He also explicitly stated “LGBTQ+ people, and especially our Transgender community members, are not an enemy or a threat.”

Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, emphasised the importance of diversity in his district, as well as “civil debate and a free exchange of ideas.” In his message, he asked people to “seek to love one another with understanding, with compassion, and with civility.”
