Netflix’s new true-crime series Monster: The Ed Gein Story is sparking backlash — for unintentionally reigniting a long-debunked myth that serial k*ller Ed Gein was transgender.

Gein’s real crimes inspired Psycho and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, but this time Netflix said it wanted to correct the record. As Tudum put it, the show presents Gein not as trans, but as “gynephilic” — a man so obsessed with women’s bodies that he wanted to be inside them. That, they argue, explains the skin-wearing — not gender identity.
