Transparency🚨: I had many life changing moments at the nabjofficial convention, but this one stood out. Just before my interview with ESPN, I felt overwhelmed by the talented journalists in the room. Unsure if it was overstimulation or a moment of feeling inferior, I received a text from a mentor kimofftherecord to meet L’Ondre Harris at the NBC booth. As we spoke, she asked the classic first-timer question, ‘How is NABJ so far?’ and I unexpectedly started tearing up😢. I shared my insecurities about not yet securing an on-camera job at 26, still being in school, and my struggles to become a better writer. Our conversation was brief, but by the time I reached the ESPN booth, I felt ready to embrace all the opportunities God had in store for me. I know seeds were planted that day, and I am grateful for L'Ondre's encouragement, for being a safe space, for not judging me, and for showing me love and support. This moment will forever be one of my favorites, reminding me it’s never too late to chase your dreams or pivot. If you’re scared, do it anyway! There is no other you, so it’s bound to be great because you did it!
