🥚 Aussi appelée île de Pâques, Rapa Nui est un triangle volcanique perdu au cœur du Pacifique Sud 🌊. . Célèbre pour ses statues moaï 🗿, elle est aussi un sanctuaire naturel classé au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO.

Depuis là-haut, on devine ses trois volcans principaux 🌋🌋🌋 et sur la côte, la plage d’Anakena tranche avec le basalte noir, oasis de sable blanc et de palmiers.

Autrefois, la piste d’atterrissage de l’île avait été allongée pour servir de terrain de secours à la navette spatiale. Aucune navette ne s’y est jamais posée… mais le lien avec les étoiles est bien là.

🌍 À 13 800 km de Paris, cette île minuscule semble suspendue entre ciel et mer. On ne distingue pas les moaï depuis l’espace, mais on imagine ce qu’ils regardent, inlassablement : l’horizon. 

C’est une des cibles qui m’ont échappées lors de mes missions… comme quoi… il me reste des photos à faire depuis là-haut 😏

Also known as Rapa Nui, Easter island this remote triangle of volcanic land in the middle of the Pacific Ocean is one of the most isolated inhabited places on Earth.

Back in the 1980s, its main airport Mataveri was extended… not for tourism, but to become an emergency landing site for NASA’s Space Shuttle. At 3,318 meters long, the runway was long enough to handle an orbiter gliding back from space. No Shuttle ever landed there — but the runway remains, facing the ocean on both sides.

✈️ Not a bad place for a backup landing strip, if you’re into remote views and ancient mysteries. You can’t spot the moai from orbit, but their silent gaze toward the horizon makes a lot more sense from up here.
