Si jamais certaines ou certains avaient besoin de se changer les idées aujourd’hui, et de diminuer le niveau de stress 😅, parlons un peu espace..

Pour apporter un peu de couleur à votre automne, voici une nouvelle collection de cieux de toutes les teintes, tous plus époustouflants les uns que les autres 🤩, tirés du concours Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2024 dans la catégorie Aurorae.

🇬🇧 Taking photos of auroras is always challenging, especially when conditions change quickly. If after seeing this selection (from the talented finalists and winners of the Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2024 competition in the Aurorae category), you’re inspired to try and capture these cosmic lights, here are some tips:

📍Find a place with minimal light pollution, and around 60 to 75 degrees of latitude. If you’re shooting from Earth, remote areas like Iceland 🇮🇸, Canada 🇨🇦, or Scandinavia 🇳🇴🇫🇮🇸🇪are ideal.
 📷 Use a fast lens (f/2.8 or faster) and a high but reasonable ISO (1600-3200). ⏱Experiment with exposure times between 5-15 seconds to capture the motion and colors of the aurora.
🔭A sturdy tripod is essential to keep the camera steady and avoid blur from long exposures.

And if you happen to be in space, you ask? 🚀 The space station is moving at 28,000 km/h around Earth, so you can’t really use long exposure times. ISO 10000, f/1.4 and around 1s are a good starting point. Capturing auroras still requires careful timing, steady hands, and plenty of practice to account for the ISS’s movement, but hey at least you’re shooting them from above 😁Happy aurora hunting!
