Une fois n’est pas coutume, ce ne sont pas mes photos ! Et pour cause, l’orbite de la station ne nous permet pas de survoler l’Antarctique 🇦🇶, et l’impossibilité de trouver ces cibles à l’œil nu m’aurait de toute façon privé de clichés aussi incroyables ! Voici la station Concordia dans toute la splendeur de son isolation glaciale, et sur l’autre photo le raid, le convoi extrême qui la ravitaille, prises par les satellites pléiades et le CNES. J’ai un petit pincement de l’avoir quittée si vite ! Une pensée pour les équipes française et italienne qui se préparent en ce moment au début de l’hivernage : 9 mois seuls dans le froid et la nuit. 🥶 ✨

For a change, these are not my pictures! First, because the orbit of the International Space Station doesn’t overfly Antarctica, and also I couldn’t possibly have found such a camouflaged target, white on white, with the naked eye 🇦🇶. That truly gives an idea of the shocking isolation of this remote scientific base, probably only to be topped by future ones on the moon… and the second picture is the crazy convoy resupplying the station, across thousands of kilometers of inhospitable and frozen terrain. I’m blown away to see them from space, after seeing them from up close! A big tip of the hat to the Pleiades satellites and the French Space Agency CNES. I get massive FOMO, having spent such a short amount of time there! Warmest greetings to the French and Italian teams currently preparing for the onset of winter: they’ll spend 9 months isolated in the cold of the Arctic night… for science !! ✨
