The constellation Leo is home to some of the most fascinating sights in the sky. From galaxies forming stars to dying stars wrapped in dust, swipe through to discover what makes this patch of space so special:

1. NGC 3627 – This spiral galaxy, located 36 million light-years away and captured by esawebb, is part of the PHANGS programme. Scientists use it to study how stars form, evolve, and shape their host galaxies. The image reveals stunning details of dust, gas, and stellar activity.

2. CW Leonis – A carbon-rich star nearing the end of its life, cloaked in thick clouds of dust. hubbleesa captured beams of light streaming through gaps in this dusty shell. These beams have changed brightness over just 15 years — offering rare insight into how stars evolve in their final stages.

3. Leo P – A small star-forming galaxy around 5 million light-years away. It has gone through three phases of star formation: an early burst, a long pause, and a recent renewal. Webb’s infrared view reveals young stars and glowing regions of active star birth.

4. IC 559 – An irregular galaxy that may once have been a classic spiral, distorted over time by gravitational interactions. Hubble’s image shows blue patches of new stars forming in scattered clouds of gas and dust — a reminder that beauty in space doesn’t always follow the rules.

5. Messier 105 – An elliptical galaxy that appears calm at first glance, but hosts a supermassive black hole at its centre, weighing around 200 million times the mass of our Sun. Once thought to be inactive, it also shows surprising signs of ongoing star formation.

So go on — tag the Leo in your life, or simply enjoy these majestic cosmic wonders.
