Meet Ophion: a star family like no other! 🌌

Our Gaia mission has uncovered a cosmic mystery — over 1000 young stars rushing out into the Milky Way in total chaos. Unlike most stellar siblings that stick together, this strange family is breaking apart fast — and no one knows why.

Could nearby supernovae be to blame? Or interactions with other stellar giants? Whatever the cause, Ophion is changing how we think about stars and their journeys through space.

Discovered using a clever new AI model and Gaia’s vast data archive, this is the kind of discovery that wouldn’t be possible without our star-mapping spacecraft.

Gaia may have stopped observing, but the science is just getting started.
