Human spaceflight began with a single orbit… and sparked a journey that’s still unfolding today. 👩‍🚀👨‍🚀🧑‍🚀

Each year, 12 April marks the International Day of Human Spaceflight — a global celebration of the courage, science, and collaboration that took humanity beyond Earth for the first time in 1961.

Today, astronauts from around the world continue that mission aboard the iss and we are proud to be part of it.

Swipe through for some brilliant moments featuring our astronauts in action, from experiments and spacewalks to stunning views of our home planet.

Featuring:
- Spacewalk to inspect a Soyuz return vehicle
- astro_timpeake explaining gyroscopes in microgravity
- Samantha Cristoforetti re-creating a scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey (Velcro shoes included!)
- esamatthiasmaurer during an orbital eye exam
- astro_andreas demonstrating microgravity
- esaastro_marcus remotely operating a surface avatar
- astro_alex_esa going for a space jog
- astro_luca installing a science payload
- thom_astro working on protein crystal growth
- A mesmerising aurora timelapse from orbit

These clips, captured aboard the International Space Station, highlight the everyday dedication, international cooperation, and scientific wonder that define European human spaceflight.

Here’s to those who fly for all of us — and to the future of exploration.
