🚀 World Space Week 2025 is here!

From 4-10 October, people in over 90 countries will gather to celebrate the UN-declared World Space Week— the largest space event on Earth. It’s a global moment that shows the power of space to inspire and unite.

This year’s theme: Living in Space. That might bring up visions of human settlements on the Moon or your favourite sci-fi series, but it’s also a reminder that the technologies needed to survive in space are already transforming life here on Earth.

Did you know that many things we use every day began as space innovations?
🛏️ Memory foam mattresses
📱 Cell phone cameras
🚗 Satellite navigation
🔥 Smoke detectors
💡 LED lights

These technologies save lives, power economies, and make our lives more comfortable. In many ways, we are already living in space.

At the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), our mandate is to ensure space benefits all of humanity. From promoting international cooperation through the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), to supporting countries with space data for disaster response, climate action, and sustainable development, UNOOSA helps keep space peaceful, safe, and inclusive.

As we mark this important week, let’s recognise the transformative role space plays in protecting our planet and shaping a sustainable future for all. 🌍
