✨🇺🇳 On the final day of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (#COPUOS2025), United Nations Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) Amina J. Mohammed delivered a powerful address, reminding attendees that “Space is not the final frontier. It is the foundation of our present.” 🔥5 key takeaways:

1️⃣ All six #SDG acceleration areas (food, energy, connectivity, education, environment, jobs) rely on space technologies.
2️⃣ Space benefits everyone, yet fewer than half of UN Member States have a satellite. UNOOSA’s capacity-building work brings space-based solutions to those who need them most.
3️⃣ In a time of tight budgets, we must direct capital toward high-impact solutions. Space is one of them. Every $1 invested in space returns up to $8 to the economy.
4️⃣ UNOOSA’s Gender Mainstreaming Toolkit is a vital step towards inclusion. When we leave talent on the sidelines, we all lose. #Space4Women
5️⃣ As the space sector accelerates, we need a strong #UNOOSA and strong #COPUOS to develop and guide global space governance.

While in Vienna, the DSG met the Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger, 🇪🇺 EU Ambassadors and representatives from 🇮🇹 Italy and 🇲🇦 Morocco to discuss #UNISPACEIV, and joined a special roundtable: “Powering our Future in Space: Dialogue with Youth and Industry.”

🏫 The highlight? A live satellite-enabled video call with pupils and teachers from Marble Quarry Primary School in Kajiado, 🇰🇪 Kenya. Blessing, a young student, shared how satellite connectivity helps her, and other students. Such a transformative impact can easily be scaled: studies have shown that connecting one child, like Blessing, to the internet for a year costs less than a cup of coffee when scaled, and can improve the learning rate of a child by 18 months☕

The conversation continued with young professionals and speakers from UNOOSA, Exolaunch, EnduroSat, Amazon Project Kuiper, and the Space Generation Advisory Council. The DSG urged all participants to use their voices for causes they care about and encouraged women across the sector to seize every opportunity.
