🚀 #COPUOS2025 has officially launched!

🇲🇦 Chair Rafiq Akram of Morocco opened the 68th session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, welcoming: 104 Member States 56 Permanent Observers, Several Heads of Space Agencies, New membership applications from 🇨🇮 Côte d’Ivoire, 🇬🇲 The Gambia, 🇭🇳 Honduras, 🇲🇹 Malta, 🇲🇻 Maldives & 🇿🇼 Zimbabwe, and 14 ad-hoc observers for 2025, including 🇰🇭 Cambodia, 🇱🇦 Lao PDR, 🇲🇩 Moldova, 🇷🇸 Serbia, 🇺🇬 Uganda, 🇻🇦 Holy See, ACES Worldwide, the African Space Agency, the Lunar Policy Platform & WIA-Europe.

🇺🇳 UNOOSA Director Aarti Holla-Maini delivered a powerful call to action:

“The time has come to speak with directness & urgency – for the sake of space safety and to preserve the authority & credibility of this Committee.”

🔥 Highlights from her remarks:

🛰️ A near-collision in orbit (75m) over the weekend between 🇲🇾 Malaysian and 🇰🇵 DPRK satellites – averted thanks to UNOOSA coordination.

“We urgently need an International Committee for Space Traffic Coordination – commendations to 🇦🇪 UAE for tabling this at #COPUOS2025.”
