🇺🇳 🌍 #UNOOSA and The Commonwealth join forces for space-powered development. On June 12 at Marlborough House in 🇬🇧 London, UNOOSA Director Aarti Holla-Maini and Commonwealth Secretary-General Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey signed a landmark Joint Declaration to unlock the power of space across Commonwealth Nations with a special focus on countries most vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters. The ceremony convened high-level attendees, including Commonwealth nation High Commissioners and the UK Space Sector.

 UNOOSA Director said: "UNOOSA is not here for glory, and we don't believe in isolated partnerships and silos, we are here to drive results. Let the metrics we celebrate be farmers reached through drought advisories, schools and villages brought online, and youth-led start-ups that transform raw satellite pixels into prosperity and progress." 

This partnership will: 
🛰️ Expand access to satellite data, and connect isolated communities, including schools, hospitals, banks and beyond, who live beyond the reach of terrestrial infrastructure. 
🏗️ Build capacity in space law, technology, and policy, 
🗣️ Build on recent momentum with the African Space Agency and with Small Island Developing States to promote the participation of Commonwealth nations in global space governance and the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (#COPUOS), 
🚨 Support climate resilience, disaster preparedness and ocean stewardship, 
👩🏽‍🚀 Empower women and youth through UNOOSA's Space4Women and Space4Youth programmes.
