🚀#COPUOS2025 blasted off today with the opening of the Scientific and Technical Sub-Committee (STSC). Chair Ulpia Elena Bontezatu 🇷🇴 welcomed 104 member states, including newest Members 🇩🇯 & 🇱🇻, its 56 observers and ad-hoc observers including 🇭🇷, 🇷🇸, 🇻🇦 & League of Arab States.🌌

Other new observers include the African Astronomical Society , the Outer Space Institute, Space Data Association, Space Renaissance International, & The Global Satellite Operators Association.

🇺🇳 Director Aarti Holla-Maini delivered remarks highlighting key achievements in 2024 including: 
🛰️2395 satellite registrations with UNOOSA.

🌒 Advancing int'l coordination on lunar exploration, including 1) the establishment of the Action Team on Lunar Activities Consultation (ATLAC), where we welcome Hasan Abbas 🇵🇰 and Ulpia Elena Botezatu 🇷🇴 as new co-chairs, and 2) the establishment of the 5th ICG working group on Lunar positioning, navigation and timing.

🌏 UN-SPIDER conducted institutional strengthening missions in 🇲🇦 & 🇹🇴, including launching the Tonga Disaster Preparedness Platform.

🇲🇾, 🇲🇨, 🇲🇦, 🇨🇱, 🇵🇭, 🇹🇭, & APAC countries received Technical Advisory Missions enabling national space laws - with 60+ countries requesting such missions.

🌠 Raising awareness of space affairs on the global stage with the UN Space Bridge on Space Traffic, holding conferences on topics ranging from space & global heath to space sustainability, and securing the endorsement of Heads of State for the committee's work in the #pactforthefuture
