## Caption

The European Astronaut Centre, Cologne, Germany. Portrait of Hervé Stevenin, ESA’s Head of EVA (extra-vehicular activity)Training and NBF (Neutral Buoyancy Facility) at the European Astronaut Centre.

ESA’s (europeanspaceagency ) Neutral Buoyancy Facility. It’s one of the deepest ‘swimming pools’ in Europe and is not only used for initial spacewalk training for astronauts on missions to the International Space Station (ISS), but more recently also for preparations for a human return to the Moon. ESA’s Neutral Buoyancy Facility at the European Astronaut Centre has been the site of the ‘Moondive’ study, using specially weighted spacesuits to simulate lunar gravity, which is just one-sixth that of Earth.

Hervé Stevenin is dressed in the outfit that the astronauts will wear in the swimming pool to perform specific tasks simulating the work without gravity. For gallerieditalia #esa #eac #astronaut #space #training vu_photo
