Hubble time! 🌌

Behold the magnificent barred spiral galaxy, NGC 1559! Located in the constellation Reticulum, near the Large Magellanic Cloud, this cosmic beauty is a staggering 35 million light-years away from Earth.

Captured by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2018, this stunning image is composed of ten different photos, each focusing on specific wavelengths of light—from ultraviolet to near-infrared. This incredible range of light lets us uncover many astrophysical secrets hidden within the galaxy, including areas of star formation (seen in bright red and pink patches) thanks to the iconic H-alpha emission.

This data, collected from six different observing programs dating back to 2009, helps scientists study everything from ionized gas and star formation to supernovas and variable stars. And the best part? All of this information is publicly available in the Hubble archive, offering endless opportunities for new discoveries—and breathtaking visuals like this one!

NGC 1559 is a reminder of the limitless potential the Hubble Space Telescope has unlocked for science and our imagination.
