George Clooney traded Hollywood life for a quieter existence in rural France. After welcoming twins with his wife Amal in 2017, he decided Los Angeles wasn’t the place he wanted them to grow up.

He told Esquire that life on a French farm gives his kids “a fair shake at life.” In France, he said, fame doesn’t matter, and people don’t care who you are. That freedom lets his children live without the pressure of celebrity culture.

Clooney said he wants his twins to grow up with chores and discipline, not iPads or paparazzi. Recently, he described how the family spent a day painting a fence together, laughing as the kids got covered in paint.

He still enjoys working with his hands. Clooney said he fixes things around the house himself, drives the tractor, and takes pride in teaching his children the value of hard work.

Other stars have done the same. Josh Duhamel built a home in Minnesota, Chris Hemsworth moved his family to Australia, and James Van Der Beek relocated to Texas.

For Clooney, though, it’s not an escape. It’s a return to how he was raised, where simplicity, family, and honest work matter more than fame.
