Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire under a plan brokered by U.S. 

President Donald Trump, marking what leaders say is the end of the two-year war in Gaza. The agreement includes a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops and a major prisoner exchange between the two sides.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the government approved the framework for releasing all hostages, both living and deceased. 

Within 24 hours, Israeli forces will retreat to control just over half of Gaza, and Hamas will free 20 hostages within 72 hours. In exchange, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian detainees.

Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya told Al-Jazeera the U.S. and other mediators guaranteed that “the war has ended permanently.” He also said aid will begin flowing into Gaza and that the Rafah border crossing will reopen.

Trump said his peace plan ensures no one in Gaza will be forced to relocate, calling it “a great peace plan supported by everybody.” He is expected to visit the region on Sunday and may attend the official signing ceremony in Egypt.

Markets reacted quickly to the news. Oil prices dipped to $64.88 per barrel, while gold slipped 2%, falling below the $4,000 per ounce mark.
