You realize pretty quickly that you’re doing absolutely nothing “special” for this city — and that’s the best part. You stop performing. You stop needing to be seen. You just start being. 2. This city existed long before you — and it’ll outlast you. New York doesn’t need you to validate it. It’s been pulsing with life, culture, and chaos long before you packed up your dreams and got on a plane. Living here is a privilege, not a personality trait. Millions of people save up their entire lives to come visit the place we get to call home. 3. Everyone’s here for a reason. No one accidentally ends up in New York. Everyone you pass on the street is chasing something — a dream, a career, a clean slate. You’ll see people at their lowest lows and others living their best day ever, sometimes just a few feet apart. It’s humbling, inspiring, and weirdly comforting all at once. 4. It’s impossible not to grow here. This city will toughen you up, soften you, break you open, and rebuild you — sometimes all in one week. You learn to ask for help, to take up space, to stay grounded in the middle of chaos. You realize you’re stronger, smarter, and more adaptable than you thought. 5. If you really want to be here, you’ll make it work. It’s expensive, unpredictable, and unforgiving — but if you want it badly enough, you’ll find a way. You’ll pick up side hustles, lean on people, get creative.
