Syria’s new president, Ahmed al-Sharaa, whose rebel fighters overthrew the Assad regime, wants to rebuild his country. He also says he plans to hold general elections once the needed infrastructure is rebuilt. If al-Sharaa can follow through on his promises, it would be a major development for the entire region. But as 60 Minutes saw while on the ground in Syria, there are major challenges ahead. Al-Sharaa says it will cost $600 billion to $900 billion to rebuild his country, and it’s going to require the international community’s help. #foreignpolicy #Syria #alsharaa
