In The Empire Strikes Back, during the Battle of Hoth, the Snowtroopers weren’t just ordinary Imperial soldiers — they belonged to a specialized division known as the Galactic Empire Cold Weather Assault Stormtrooper Corps, or simply the Cold Assault Stormtroopers.

Interestingly, their armor wasn’t fully sealed, unlike that of the AT-AT pilots, so they relied on built-in portable heating systems to survive the freezing conditions of Hoth.

 In Lucasfilm’s original production notes, Snowtroopers were internally referred to as “Blizzard Force,” a name that was later officially adopted in the Star Wars Expanded Universe as the elite unit that led the assault on Echo Base’s shield generator.
