Career update: I have decided to step away from my current position as a photographer for the University of Virginia to pursue freelance photography full-time. My last day with UVA will be December 20th. I am deeply grateful for the 2.5 years I have spent at Virginia – the people I have met, opportunities I’ve been given, and how much I have learned along the way.

It has become incredibly clear over the past several months that my heart and my calling lie in sports photography. When I realized this, I knew that the only way forward was to dive in headfirst and take the advice that many of you have given me: “just go do it.”

I grew up a Virginia fan, spending very cold evenings at Klöckner Stadium watching my sister play. I went to marching band camp in University Hall at 14, where I learned to play the Good Old Song on my trumpet. I moved here directly after college graduation and became a passionate fan of all things Virginia. It’s been a dream come true to be a small part of this University’s story.

It’s a bittersweet end. To write about what this university has meant to me would take ages, but I want to say thank you to some who has helped me along the way. To Alex and Erin, for being my first teammates and cheerleaders. To Sanjay, for putting a camera in my hands and believing that I could be a photographer. To Matt Riley for being a good friend, a great manager, and for the coasters and hot chocolate. To Erik, Vinny, Mitch, and Kelly, for letting me be a creative floater, teaching me about video, and always making me laugh on long shoots. To Julia, for everything. To Ryan and Johnny and Bstud Bithse, for pushing me forward. To Cavman, I’ll love you forever and ever (and ever and ever). To Klöckner and JPJ for being my most consistent homes in C’ville. 

To every student, staff member, faculty, and sunrise I’ve photographed at UVA - it’s been a joy and privilege. I can’t wait to continue my work in Charlottesville and beyond and keep sharing it here. Go Hoos always :)
