On Tuesday, the Navy family gathered in the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes to celebrate 250 years of honor, courage, and commitment with a traditional cake-cutting ceremony.
 
The event was attended by the Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable John C. Phelan, the 34th Chief of Naval Operations, Adm. Daryl Caudle, and the 17th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, John Perryman — each representing the proud legacy and enduring spirit of our Navy.
 
As part of time-honored Navy tradition, the first slice of cake was presented to the oldest Sailor in attendance, Rear Adm. Gregory Todd, the Navy’s Chief of Chaplains (age 64), who then passed it to the youngest Sailor, YNSN Williams (age 20) — symbolizing the passing of experience, wisdom, and tradition to the next generation.
 
From our first ships in 1775 to today’s global fleet, America’s Navy continues to stand the watch — always ready to defend freedom and serve with pride.
