The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) isn’t backing down from Pete Hegseth. 🪖🎖️

During Saturday’s Indigenous Fashion Gala in Los Angeles, Mark Macarro (macarroncaipres25) — President of NCAI and Tribal Chairman of the Pechanga Band of Indians in Southern California — stood firmly against U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth (petehegseth) and his proclamation that the soldiers associated with the Wounded Knee Massacre would keep their Medals of Honor.

“You folks that are designers, artists, musicians... you keep doing what you're doing. We need that visibility. We need you to represent. We need you to be out in public. So please keep doing what you're doing. We love it,” President Macarro shared.

The Wounded Knee Massacre was the 1890 U.S. Army slaughter of more than 250 Lakota men, women, and children — a devastating act of erasure still felt across Indigenous communities today.

Share your thoughts on President Macarro’s words below. Do you think this decision will ever be reversed? 💭⤵️
