Rumors of a $599 MacBook powered by Apple's A-series iPhone processors (instead of the current M-series chips) are swirling. 🌀

The question is: can the latest A19/A19 Pro smartphone silicon deliver sufficient performance for a capable, low-cost laptop experience? We compared the chips against current MacBooks and budget Windows machines.

Our testing revealed favorable comparisons. The A19 variants approached the single-core speeds of the M4 MacBook Pro/Air and drove faster single-core speeds than both Windows laptop processors we tested. While multi-core performance still shows a stark difference between A-series phone processors and M-series laptop chips, the A19 Pro was competitive with budget Windows systems. 📈

The data suggests a MacBook built on the A-series platform wouldn't replace M-series Macs, but it could create a new first rung on the ladder. With competent performance and Apple's high-quality design, a $599 Mac could be a masterstroke, helping Apple beat cheap Chromebooks and inexpensive Windows machines in the budget market.
