The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has postponed a planned vote to determine whether or not Israel will be allowed to take part in Eurovision 2026.

The vote was due to happen in November, following growing debate over Israel’s inclusion in the song contest, amidst conflict in Gaza and calls from campaigners to show solidarity with Palestine.

There were debates about whether Israel’s participation would align with the show’s “united through music” values.

The EBU said the vote was postponed in “the light of recent developments in the Middle East”, with Israel and Hamas engaging in hostage releases and prisoner exchanges as part of a ceasefire deal.

The topic will instead be discussed at the EBU’s annual meeting in December.
