It’s an October #StormSurvivorSunday and we are on Broadway at the Van Alstyne House. Built in 1891 for Alfred Albert Van Alstyne and his wife, Catherine, the home is purportedly one of the most haunted on the island. With both homeowners passing in the home and being buried very nearby, it’s no wonder they hang around to keep an eye on their gingerbread adorned Broadway Beauty. Most stories permeating the home’s walls revolve around the attic, voices, and a watchful Victorian man. A letter written by Catherine immediately after the Great Storm of 1900 was uncovered in the home. She wrote, “Can you imagine 50 of us crammed underneath the stairs?…” with “nowhere else to look but through the window and count their blessings as bodies passed by.” ☠️
